When our lives become inundated, we tend to lose sight of what is most important: ourselves.

Whether it’s because you are spending a big part of your day taking care of family or managing a mountain of chores, we all go through it at some point in our lives.

When this happens, we sometimes start to lose our true essence, our natural way of being as well as our confidence. This can result in feeling overwhelmed, tired and lost.

Here are a few tips that will keep you in check and allow you to get your true-self back with renewed passion and vigor.

1. Do Things That Make You Smile

Smiling not only releases your happy hormone, it creates an overall positive effect within your body. As you begin to feel good, you act good and spread this affect through your day, week and life. In turn, you are upbeat, cheerful and positive. It also helps your mind be more clear, open and effective. Simple daily practices can include things such as reading a book, going for a walk, setting realistic goals, having a stimulating conversation or eating the right foods.

2. Build on Your Strongest Qualities

Instead of concentrating on what isn’t working or needs improvement, focus on what you are already good at.  Remind yourself of these things through daily affirmations. Building on your best attributes and characteristics, is like building a muscle. The more you do it, the stronger they will become. And don’t be afraid to set higher achievement goals. It will not only help you enhance your best traits, you will learn to be the master of them.

3. Strut Your Inner Spark

The fire you have inside of you can fuel you to greater heights and limitless possibilities. It also puts a spring in your step and gives you your unique persona. Bring this out each day by celebrating your life and everything you are blessed. When we exude inner beauty, confidence and grace, the world beckons to us, bringing us all our desires and opportunities step by step. Remember to always begin and end your day by reminding yourself of how awesome and full your life already is. When we live with gratitude, everything is a gift.

4. Spend Alone Time

Any form of solitude is a pause from the daily rush. It helps replenish our thoughts, creativity, mind and soul. It’s so important to make this a part of your routine. Set a small amount of time out to sit in silence and just breathe or create a morning ritual with yoga and meditation. This will help in creating healthy space around you. And on a periodic basis, invest in yourself through pampering rituals such as spa days, working with a private coach or taking a yoga class.

5. Journal

Penning down your thoughts is one of the simplest ways to cleanse the mind, express yourself and find answers to your own questions. It not only aligns you with your intuition, it helps you achieve clarity through a fun and easy ritual which eventually becomes the story of your life. Write about anything you want or create separate journals for gratitude, goals and everyday life. The important thing is to get creative and have fun with it!

There’s power in recognizing who you are and what you’re good at, and even more power when you let those qualities shine through to others. Take some time to notice yourself!
