What makes Deloitte stand out from the crowd?
Deloitte has been helping shape corporate America’s inclusion landscape — pushing boundaries and challenging the status quo — since 1993, when we became the first professional services organization to establish a Women’s Initiative (WIN). Somewhat unexpectedly, WIN also serves as an innovation engine, providing a proving ground where we can test, improve upon and scale new ideas to impact both women and men at Deloitte. For example, it is through WIN that we have led the way with our innovative approach to work-life fit.
Twenty years after the inception of our Women’s Initiative, Deloitte has expanded our understanding and direction. Today, we are strengthening our inclusive culture, grounded in our corporate values, our leaders, and our talent.
What are some of the work-life options available at Deloitte?
We realize that our people have unique work-life needs and aspirations; each person has his/her own version of “what works.” Providing flexible options for when, where and how individuals and teams work, and supporting our people in achieving work life satisfaction are top priorities for us, and we take a holistic approach to address the diverse work-life needs of our people.
Personal Pursuits allows participants to separate from Deloitte for up to five years to pursue outside personal goals, such as being a full-time parent, pursuing an MBA full time, or teaching English in China, while remaining connected to the organization and maintaining the skills and networks required to rejoin the workforce down the line. The program provides participants with the resources to maintain their marketability, including a mentor, access to networking events and training, and access to the Deloitte Learning Center, which offers live and online classes. Participants are also eligible for paid participation in approved professional associations and coverage of state licensing fees relevant to their prior position, as applicable. They are offered subsidized training opportunities to maintain Certified Professional Education requirements and stay current in their profession.
Our Sabbatical Program is a popular option for eligible employees who wish to take a break but remain an employee of Deloitte. Based upon eligibility, professionals may take a four-week unpaid sabbatical with continued benefits to pursue activities not covered by another formal leave program. Or, they may opt for a three- to six-month sabbatical, which offers a leave period paid at 40% of base salary with continued benefits to pursue external career development opportunities or volunteer experiences.
Deloitte also offers informal flexibility and our professionals are able to manage their own flexibility as their work and life circumstances warrant over time. This option is especially helpful for parents returning to work after parental leave and provides all of our professionals – including working moms – the ability to achieve longer-term career flexibility.
Aside from work-life fit options, what other support does Deloitte offer working parents?
Through our Working Family Resource Center we provide new parents with programs, tools and resources to support them in this new phase of their lives. The Deloitte Parents’ Network (DPN) provides new parents opportunities to develop mentoring relationships with others in similar life situations, promotes knowledge sharing, and connects parents with resources available to assist them in making informed decisions. Back-up childcare is offered to all of our employees, and may be used for a variety of reasons, including illness, school holidays, business travel, etc. We offer a lactation support program, to help ease the transition back from parental leave.
What’s on the horizon at Deloitte?
Our vision is to build a culture through commitment and mutual accountability where all of our people feel like they belong, have the flexibility to manage the integration of work and life, have opportunities to do enriching work and advance, and feel free to live and work openly.
As one of the nation’s largest professional services organizations, our ability to attract, develop, and deploy high-performing talent is critical to delivering superior performance and creating outstanding value for our clients. Our people are our greatest asset — the engine of our growth — and every individual has something unique to contribute to our collective success.
