There are a lot of headlines lately about the job market that feel a bit doom and gloom as we wait to see if the Federal Reserve will cut rates in September (it’s largely assumed they will so it’s more reading the tea leaves about how big of a cut they’ll go with). the headlines can leave us feeling discouraged, especially if you’re dusting off the resume after some time out of the paid workforce.

But feat not! As a job seeker, the only thing you need to worry about is where the jobs are NOW. What industries or sectors are ADDING jobs? How might you focus your job search in these areas?

  1. Start by taking a look at companies, say, in the health sector (still healthy and adding jobs!).
  2. Select companies you’re familiar with or potentially address an area of health you’re particularly interested in.
  3. Choose a few big ones and look at their career pages. Do the same with a few smaller companies. What job titles stand out to you?
  4. Get local potentially. Are there organizations in your area that could help you narrow your focus?
  5. Be open to opportunities that might not look exactly as you had imagined.

Be inspired the jobs that are out there, and save the worry for later!
