Silicon Valley venture capital firm Kleiner-Perkins is starting a fellowship program for designers, with the intention of placing them as interns inside some of their portfolio companies.

What does this mean? It means the emphasis on design of websites and products is big-time, enough so that even VCs are placing value on its importance to the success of a business.

Jessica Lessin of WSJ explains the phenomenon in her post on Digits today. If you’re already a designer, this is great news for you! If you are looking to kickstart your career in a new direction, design (visual, communication or infrastructure / user experience) might be a good one to consider.

Case in point? Simple search for “designer” on yields close to 400,000 results.
