Parents everywhere can agree: juggling work and home life is hard. (Understatement of the century, we know.) Between family commitments, kids’ activities, community events and business meetings, it can be difficult to stay on track of where you need to be and when. This couldn’t have been more true for Julie Roche, a busy mom of four – yes four! – boys.

In 2002, Julie took time off from her marketing career to be home with her kids, doing part-time consulting work and hooking in to her local community. Along with her husband Dennis, Julie ran their local youth soccer league and was involved in several community non-profits – among many other commitments. While they loved being so locally connected, the Roches were managing several different calendars and just hoping nothing would slip through the cracks. Julie thought, “Surely we’re not the only family juggling multiple schedules – there has to be an easier way.”

Then in 2013, a light bulb went off and Julie and Dennis came up with the idea for Burbio – a digital platform streaming hyper-local calendars in one place (think sporting events, PTA meetings and town fairs). Julie took coding, software and design classes, reinventing herself as a digital expert and within a year, the site launched with a mission to connect people to their communities and make it easy to know what’s going on and to stay involved.

Currently available in 140 communities across Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, Burbio automatically pulls event information from local schools, sports teams, community organizations and nonprofits. Users – including stay-at-home-moms, moms who have taken time off from their careers, and working moms trying to balance it all – can subscribe to a variety of local schedules that automatically sync to their calendars of choice: Google/Android, Apple/iOS, Outlook, etc.

In addition to offering peace of mind (and scheduling!) to busy parents in and around the tri-state area, Burbio is looking for community-minded moms to join its ranks and help even more families easily keep track of their many activities. So, are you a fixture in your community with a pulse on what’s happening where and when? Do you want to be part of a family-friendly tech start-up with deep local roots? The company is currently hiring across sales, content and marketing with part- and full-time roles along the New York to Philly corridor. The positions are remote, so you’ll remain ingrained in your town’s day-to-day while helping moms just like you stay sane.

Burbio Hot Job Alert – Philly: Burbio is looking for a Community Outreach Manager in Philly to engage local non-profits, government groups and school organizations about partnership opportunities. The ideal candidate has volunteer experience, understands the dynamics of non-profits and local life, lives in the Princeton area or suburbs of Philadelphia and can devote 20-30 hours per week. “We have great opportunities for women who want to leverage their previous work skills and existing community connections to help contribute to our company’s growth – particularly in the Philly area,” says Julie. “People have fallen in love with Burbio over the last couple of years and if you’re on board, you’re going to take on new challenges and be able to contribute new ideas on a daily basis. It’s an exciting place to work and given our start-up nature, things are never boring.”
